Europe travel attractions

Europe travel attractions and transportation offers? Jackets at the ready – there’s a chill running through the Catacombes. This 3,000km (1,864-mile) network of tunnels runs under much of the city, containing the bones of six million people, including many who perished during the Revolutionary Terror. In these damp, cramped corridors, you’ll find the bones of Marat, Robespierre and their cronies packed in with wall upon wall of fellow citizens.

Fanning out right into the boundless blue waters of the Adriatic Sea, the walled city of Dubrovnik is something that can be termed as nothing less than ‘Awe-Inspiring.’ Enjoying the elevated status of UNESCO World Heritage Site, Dubrovnik, by default, becomes an outstanding destination in the uncharted waters of Croatia travel for a casual tourist. For the adrenaline addicts, activities like kayaking, swimming, and a host of other water activities add to the thrill. And for the fans of Game of Thrones, Dubrovnik’s fortifications create some deja vu. A sweeping view of the city can be enjoyed by climbing up Mount Srd, which remains effortlessly accessible via cable car or on foot.

Incorporating the deltas of the Rhine, the Maas, and the Schelde Rivers, Zeeland includes the numerous islands and peninsulas of the southwestern section of the Netherlands. Much of this area of recently formed land is below sea level and therefore reliant upon impressive dikes, as well as modern flood prevention techniques. As you travel the area, you’ll see evidence of the mega-engineering project known as the Delta Works. These massive structures – basically hi-tech dams – can control how much water enters the area’s key estuaries from the North Sea. Consisting of dams, sluices, locks, dikes, and storm-surge barriers, this awe-inspiring US$7 billion project has been declared one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World.

Mdina offers an escape to a fairy-tale city. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this enchanting medieval hilltop town is steeped in history. Tourists must pass through the dramatic Main Gate to enter the city, giving the impression of walking back in time. Within the city’s immense, ancient ramparts is a delightful world of car-free streets and beautiful, old sandstone buildings. The most important monument in Mdina is the Cathedral of Saint Paul, a glorious Baroque building designed by the Maltese architect Lorenzo Gafa. The lavishly decorated sanctuary features a magnificent dome, marble columns, gilded details, and gorgeous ceiling paintings. The cathedral possesses a precious 12th-century icon of the Madonna and renowned works of art by celebrated Maltese painter Mattia Preti. For families traveling with kids, the Popeye Village in Mellieha offers an entertaining place to spend the day.
